Our Story
The First Christian Church of Canon City was organized May 14, 1888, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Ashby at 408 River St. (now Royal Gorge Boulevard). There were 27 charter members, and their mission was to encourage all people to become followers of Jesus Christ and nurture them in their spiritual journey with Him. A small brick building was erected at the corner of 6th and Harrison which served as the place of worship for nearly 20 years.
In 1907 a larger building at the corner of 7th and Harrison was erected. The present building was erected in 1969 at 16th Street and Franklin Avenue, with the first worship service held on September 21, 1969.
Pastor Bill Carson has served this congregation since June 1992. The church called Dan Copeland to be the youth minister in 2009.
In 2007, the church undertook a process with the help of Navigators International to become a Disciple-making church.
Today, we continue to pray for our development as disciple-makers and refine the process to meet the needs of our community.
